[Lenses for Vintage Frames]

We are very particular about lenses for vintage frames.

If you go to an optical boutique and ask them to put lenses to your vintage frame,
and if you tell that your frame is vintage made in 1950s, they feel it would be too risky.
So they will refuse your request. Or even if they accept your order, they would tell you that if they broke your frame, they can't be responsible for it. You will have to take all the risk.

You can telephone a few optical boutiques and ask about it in advance before ordering from us.

We carry only vintage frames and put lenses for very old vintage frames every day.
And we are Japanese craftsmen of eyewear.
We also make bespoke frames every day.
We repair almost any damage of vintage frames.
We are proud of our technology and knowledge as the highest level professional in the world.

For example, when we cut lenses for a vintage frame, we make the lenses a little bit smaller than just the tight size for the frame.
This is because we think we have to minimize the pressure between frame and lenses.

[Plastic vs Glass]

There are 2 kinds of lens material, Plastic and Glass.

For vintage frames made before 1960s, I recommend you the Glass material if you would like clear color lenses.

Though Plastic material is popular and predominates since 1970s because of the 3 reasons below:
#Plastic lenses have much more color variations than Glass lenses (color variation)
#Plastic lenses weigh half compared to Glass lenses (very light)
#Opticians can cut Plastic lenses far more easily than Glass lenses (easy for opticians)

These above are the merits of Plastic materials.

But if you need clear (colorless) lenses and you dont mind the weight, Glass material is evidently better for 4 reasons below:
#Through Glass lens, your vision is far clearer (higher resolution)
#The Glass lens has the quality to last long (for more than 10 years) while Plastic lenses are for about 3 years
#Glass lens are resistant to heat so you can wear them while bathing
#Glass lens are scratch resistant originally. Far stronger than Plastic with hard coating.
#And.. Back in the 1950s, there were only Glass lenses so the eyeglasses with glass lenses have far more vintage feel!

In conclusion, Glass is like silk or cashmere and Plastic is like Polyester when we think of clothes.
Plastic is easier to care for but Glass has the best texture in all lens materials.
